PREJUDICE
偏见
In taking up the consideration of prejudice, we are dealing with a state of mind that has close affinities to paranoid states and which bears thestamp of the pathological, but at the same time seems to be so widespread that it defies any easy classification as pathological. We have become aware only in the last few years, by reason of the growing concern over civil rights and more recently the pressures created by the Black Power movement, of the extent and intensity of prejudicial attitudes in contemporary society. Allport (1958) has given us a comprehensive discussion of the problem of prejudice, which traces the many complex facets of the problem and underlines the fact that prejudice is an extremely complicated phenomenon which has its root in intrapsychic conflicts, in processes of group interaction and related processes that take place at the social and cultural levels. The generation, patterning, and maintenance of prejudice are functions of the complex interplay of these many aspects of the problem.
