He felt hurt and angry when kids picked on him—especially for his somewhat childlike, short and fat build. He remembered being very self-conscious. The boys would have to undress for gym class and Don was afraid of this. He was particularly afraid to expose his genitals, feeling embarrassed and ashamed. He felt that they were smaller than anyone else's and that if the other boys saw them he would be ridiculed and made fun of.
